Prayer
An Irish Blessing — St. Patrick
May the road
rise to meet
you, May the
wind be always at
your back, May the
sun shine warm upon
your face, the rains
fall soft upon your
fields and, until we
meet again may
God hold you in the
palm of His Hand.
About the Blessing
A Prayer for the Road Ahead
This traditional Irish blessing asks for God’s protection, guidance, warmth, and peace throughout life’s journey. Its words make it especially meaningful for anyone beginning a new chapter, traveling, moving, graduating, marrying, retiring, or simply needing encouragement.
Paired with the image of St. Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland, this prayer card is a beautiful expression of faith, Irish heritage, and goodwill.
A Personal Note
From Shawn Kilgarlin
When I visited Ireland and climbed Croagh Patrick — the holy mountain in County Mayo associated with St. Patrick — I understood why this blessing resonates so deeply. The road, the wind, the rain, and the land all become reminders of God’s presence in everyday life.
The Irish Blessing is more than a beautiful poem. It is a prayer of hope and trust — a reminder that God can accompany us along every road we travel.
