On October 7, 1571, a vastly outnumbered Christian fleet faced the Ottoman armada at the Battle of Lepanto — and won. Pope Pius V had called all of Europe to pray the Rosary, and when the victory came, he attributed it entirely to Our Lady. He renamed the feast Our Lady of Victory, and the Church has celebrated it ever since as a testament to the power of Mary's intercession in the battles of history — and in the battles of our own lives.
