The First Battle — And the Victory That Changed Everything

The battle between Michael and Lucifer is described in the Book of Revelation: "Now war arose in heaven, Michael and his angels fighting against the dragon. And the dragon and his angels fought back, but he was defeated, and there was no longer any place for them in heaven. And the great dragon was thrown down, that ancient serpent, who is called the devil and Satan, the deceiver of the whole world — he was thrown down to the earth, and his angels were thrown down with him." (Rev. 12:7-9)

This prayer begins from that victory. It does not ask Michael to fight — it reminds God that Michael already won, and asks that we be allowed to fight under the same Cross, with the same divine help, to the same final glory. It is a prayer of confidence, not fear. The battle is already decided. We are fighting on the winning side.

My grandmother Irene Forte Pollert taught me the Prayer to St. Michael when I was a little girl, pulling monkey grass in her yard for 25 cents a day. My son Cody chose St. Michael as his favorite saint. The victory of heaven is our inheritance. ⚔️
