🌿 About St. Francis of Assisi

Born in 1181 in Assisi, Italy, Francis grew up in a wealthy family. However, a profound conversion changed the direction of his life. He gave up his family’s fortune and chose a life of simplicity, prayer, and service.

Later, he founded the Franciscan order and became known for his care for the poor. He also developed a deep love for nature and all of God’s creation. In 1224, Francis experienced the stigmata, which further shaped his spiritual legacy.

The Church canonized him shortly after his death in 1226. His feast day is October 4. Today, Catholics honor him as the patron saint of animals, ecology, and Italy. Pope Francis also chose his papal name in honor of St. Francis of Assisi.
