She Left Everything for God. Pray with St. Clare of Assisi.

At eighteen years old, St. Clare of Assisi heard Francis preach, felt the fire of God in her heart, and walked away from one of the wealthiest families in Assisi to follow Christ in radical poverty. She never looked back. She founded the Order of Poor Ladies — the Poor Clares — and spent the next 40 years in a small convent, praying, fasting, and loving God with her whole being. When an army of soldiers threatened her convent, she held up the Blessed Sacrament at the door — and they fled.

St. Clare is the patron saint of television (because she once saw a Christmas Mass on the wall of her cell when she was too ill to attend), of eye disease, and of all who seek to live simply and close to God. This beautifully laminated Kilgarlin prayer card features St. Clare on the front and a powerful prayer on the back, finished with gold color accents.

The Prayer

O glorious St. Clare, God has given you the power of working miracles continually, and the grace of healing the sick. I come to you with confidence and beg you to obtain for me from God, by your powerful intercession, the favor I so earnestly seek. Be pleased to recommend my request to Mary, the Mother of Mercies, so that she may plead my cause with you before the throne of Jesus. Continue to intercede for me until my request is granted. Above all, obtain for me the grace to one day meet God face to face, and with you and Mary and all the angels and saints to praise Him for all eternity. Amen.

A Mission Behind Every Card

ShopCatholic was founded by Shawn Kilgarlin — wife, mother of four, mental health clinician, and life coach. Every Christmas Eve, Shawn donates thousands of gifts to those in need through Holy Angels. She volunteers at addiction treatment centers, offering grounding boxes and group classes. Her children, Loyola University students, and local high school students help make gift bags for families in need — all funded from her own heart. When you purchase a Kilgarlin prayer card, you're participating in that mission of giving.

Perfect for Franciscan Communities & St. Clare Parishes

This card is a natural fit for any Franciscan parish, Poor Clare monastery, or ministry named in honor of St. Clare. It's ideal for her feast day (August 11th), Franciscan retreats, and as a gift for anyone drawn to the Franciscan spirit of simplicity, poverty, and joy. St. Clare parishes and schools across the country will find this a meaningful card for feast day celebrations and parish handouts.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who was St. Clare of Assisi?
St. Clare (1194–1253) was an Italian saint who, inspired by St. Francis of Assisi, founded the Order of Poor Ladies (the Poor Clares) — the second Franciscan order. She was the first woman to write a religious rule for women. She is the patron saint of television, eye disease, embroiderers, and those seeking to live in radical simplicity. Her feast day is August 11th. She was canonized just two years after her death in 1255.

Why is St. Clare the patron of television?
Pope Pius XII declared St. Clare the patron saint of television in 1958 because of a reported miracle in which she saw and heard a Christmas Mass on the wall of her cell when she was too ill to attend. It is one of the most charming and surprising patronages in the entire calendar of saints!

Can I order in bulk for my parish or ministry?
Absolutely! Cards are available in packs up to 100 for standard orders. For custom print orders, the minimum is 1,000 cards with approximately a 5-day turnaround — and you can order any quantity above that. When Pope Francis made his 2016 Apostolic Journey to the US/Mexico border, he ordered 80,000 Kilgarlin prayer cards for distribution. Contact us to discuss your custom order.
