Prayer to St. Patrick (March 17)
O Blessed Apostle of Ireland! Glorious St. Patrick!
Who did become the father and benefactor of that land
long before my birth —
look down upon me from thy heavenly throne
and intercede for me before God.
Thou who didst convert so many souls to the faith,
obtain for me the grace to live and die
a true child of Holy Mother Church.
Pray for Ireland, pray for us all,
that we may one day join thee
in the eternal joy of heaven.
Amen.
A Personal Note from Shawn
I have stood on Croagh Patrick — the holy mountain in County Mayo, Ireland, where St. Patrick fasted for forty days and, according to tradition, banished the snakes from Ireland. Standing on that rocky summit, looking out over Clew Bay, I felt the weight of centuries of Irish faith beneath my feet. It was one of the most moving experiences of my life. That pilgrimage lives in my heart, and it lives in every St. Patrick card we carry at ShopCatholic.

I volunteer at addiction treatment centers and fund this mission from my own heart. When you purchase a ShopCatholic prayer card, you're participating in that mission of giving. Thank you. 🙏
Frequently Asked Questions
Who was St. Patrick, and why is he so beloved?
St. Patrick (c. 385–461 AD) was a Romano-British missionary who became the patron saint of Ireland. Kidnapped as a teenager and enslaved in Ireland, he escaped, became a priest, and then returned to the very land of his captivity to bring the Gospel. He used the three-leafed shamrock to explain the Holy Trinity — and the Irish never forgot him. His feast day, March 17th, is celebrated by Catholics (and everyone else!) around the world. As the Irish say: "St. Patrick was a gentleman, who through strategy and stealth, drove all the snakes from Ireland — here's a toasting to his health!" 🍀
How can I use this prayer card?
Tuck it in your wallet, your Bible, or your prayer book. Give it to someone of Irish heritage, someone going through a hard time, or anyone who needs a reminder that a great saint is interceding for them. It's a perfect gift for St. Patrick's Day, First Communion, Confirmation, or any occasion that calls for a little Irish blessing.
