- Description
She didn't have to stop. The crowd pressed in. The soldiers shouted, and the road to Calvary was no place for a woman to step forward.
Still, Veronica stepped forward.
She took her veil and pressed it to the face of Jesus. Through that simple act of courage and compassion, tradition gives us one of the most tender moments of the Passion.
And on that cloth, His face remained.
This beautifully laminated Prayer to St. Veronica card honors a woman remembered for showing mercy when mercy was costly. Moreover, it invites us to seek her intercession for the courage to show compassion when others turn away.

Prayer to St. Veronica
O my Jesus, Saint Veronica served You on the way to Calvary
by wiping Your beloved face with a towel,
on which Your sacred image then appeared.
She protected this treasure,
and whenever people touched it,
they were healed of their diseases.
Grant me, through her intercession,
the grace to keep Your image ever in my heart,
and to wipe away the tears of those who suffer.
May I, like Veronica, have the courage
to step forward in love
when others step away.
Amen.
A Personal Note from Shawn
St. Veronica is one of my favorite figures in the Passion narrative. Not because she performed a miracle, but because she simply showed up.
As a mental health clinician, I work with people who carry their own crosses every day. Often, they do not need an immediate solution. Instead, they need someone to step forward, see them, and stay beside them.
Veronica reminds us that sometimes the holiest thing we can do is simply be present. That spirit is at the heart of ShopCatholic. It is also behind every prayer card we carry.

In addition, I volunteer at addiction treatment centers and personally support this mission. When you purchase a ShopCatholic prayer card, you become part of that spirit of giving. Thank you. 🙏
Frequently Asked Questions
1) Who was St. Veronica, and is she in the Bible?
St. Veronica's story comes through Catholic tradition rather than Scripture. Tradition remembers her as the woman who wiped the face of Jesus on the Via Dolorosa. Her compassionate act is represented in the sixth Station of the Cross.
The name Veronica has also traditionally been associated with the idea of a “true image.” According to the devotion, the cloth retained an image of Christ's face. Therefore, St. Veronica remains closely connected with compassion for those who suffer.
2) When is this card a meaningful gift?
This card is especially meaningful for people who care for others. For example, it makes a thoughtful gift for nurses, social workers, teachers, parents, caregivers, and hospice workers.
It can also serve as a meaningful Lenten gift, First Communion keepsake, or addition to a sympathy note. Above all, its message honors those who quietly step forward to comfort someone in pain.
3) Can I order these in bulk for my parish or ministry?
Absolutely! Cards are available in packs of up to 100 for standard orders.
For larger needs, our custom printing option starts at 1,000 cards. The approximate turnaround is five days, and larger quantities are available. Therefore, these cards work well for parishes, ministries, retreats, schools, and Catholic organizations. Contact us to discuss your custom order. 🙏
