Prayer to St. Patrick (March 17)
O Blessed Apostle of Ireland!
glorious St. Patrick! who did become the
father and benefactor of that land long before
my birth, receive my prayers, and accept the
sentiments of gratitude and veneration with
which my heart is filled towards You. You
are the channel of my grateful thanksgivings
to God for having granted, through you that
precious gift of faith which is dearer to us
than life.
O most blessed father and patron of that
country! do not, I beseech You despise my
weakness. Remember that the cries of little
children were the mysterious indication that
You did receive to go. Listen, then, to my
most humble supplications; I unite them to
the praises and blessings which will ever
follow Your name and Your memory
throughout the Irish Church. I unite them to
the prayers of the multitude of our ancestors,
who now enjoy eternal bliss, and owe their
salvation, under God, to Your zeal and
charity. They will eternally share Your glory,
because they listened to Your word and
followed Your example. Ah since I am
descended from saints I will not go against
them, may I begin from this moment so to
love God with all my heart and serve Him
with all my strength. For this end, I most
humbly beg Your blessing, O great St.
Patrick! and Your Particular intercession, for
obtaining whatever grace You see to be most
necessary for me.
Amen.
A Prayer for Intercession, Faith & Irish Catholic Heritage
This prayer honors St. Patrick as the Apostle and patron of Ireland and asks for his intercession before God. It expresses gratitude for the gift of faith and calls the faithful to love and serve God wholeheartedly.
With its traditional image of St. Patrick and full prayer on the reverse, this card is especially meaningful for St. Patrick's Day, Irish Catholic families, parish ministries, religious education, retreats, and personal prayer.
From Shawn Kilgarlin
I have stood on Croagh Patrick — the holy mountain in County Mayo, Ireland, where St. Patrick fasted for forty days and, according to tradition, banished the snakes from Ireland. Standing on that rocky summit, looking out over Clew Bay, I felt the weight of centuries of Irish faith beneath my feet.
That pilgrimage lives in my heart, and it lives in every St. Patrick card we carry at ShopCatholic. For me, these cards are a simple way to keep prayer, faith, and the witness of the saints close in everyday life.
