An Irish Benediction St. Patrick Kilgarlin Laminated Prayer Card
A benediction is more than a blessing — it is a sending forth. It is the Church's way of saying: "Go. You are loved. You are covered. God goes with you." The Irish have always understood this. They bless the road, the hearth, the harvest, and the journey — because they know that life is a pilgrimage, and no pilgrim should walk it unblessed.
This beautifully laminated An Irish Benediction card carries a timeless Irish blessing — words of grace and peace to send with anyone you love.

An Irish Benediction
May the road rise up to meet you,
May the wind be always at your back,
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
The rains fall soft upon your fields,
And until we meet again,
May God hold you in the palm of His hand.
Amen.
A Personal Note from Shawn
I have stood on Croagh Patrick — the holy mountain in County Mayo, Ireland, where St. Patrick fasted for forty days and, according to beloved tradition, banished the snakes from Ireland. Pilgrims have climbed that mountain barefoot for over 1,500 years, and when you reach the top, you understand why. You feel sent. Blessed. Commissioned. That is what a benediction does — it doesn't just wish you well, it releases you into God's care. I carry that feeling with me, and I carry it into every card we offer at ShopCatholic.
I'm Shawn Kilgarlin — wife, mother of four, mental health clinician, and Life Coach. Every Christmas Eve, I donate thousands of gifts to those in need through Holy Angels. I volunteer at addiction treatment centers and fund this mission from my own heart. When you purchase a ShopCatholic prayer card, you're participating in that mission of giving. Thank you. 🙏
Frequently Asked Questions
What's the difference between a blessing and a benediction?
Great question! A blessing asks God to favor someone. A benediction formally sends them forth under God's protection — it's the "go in peace" at the end of Mass, the pastor's hands raised over the congregation. The Irish Benediction does both: it blesses the road AND releases the traveler into God's hands. As the Irish say: "May you be in heaven a full half hour before the devil knows you're dead." 🍀 Now THAT is a benediction!
When should I give this card?
Any time someone is departing — a graduation, a move, a retirement, a deployment, a new chapter. It's also beautiful for funerals and memorial services, as a final benediction over a life well-lived. Tuck it in a sympathy card, a graduation gift, or a going-away package.
Can I order these in bulk for my parish or event?
Absolutely! Cards are available in packs up to 100 for standard orders. For larger needs, our custom print option starts at 1,000 cards, takes approximately 5 days, and can be ordered in any quantity. When Pope Francis visited the United States, he ordered 15,000 "Praying with Five Fingers" cards — a reminder of just how powerful a simple prayer card can be.
