About St. Michael — The Commander of Heaven

St. Michael is one of only three angels named in Scripture. His name in Hebrew means "Who is like God?" — the battle cry he shouted as he led the heavenly armies against Lucifer. In the Book of Revelation, it is Michael who defeats the dragon: "Michael and his angels fought against the dragon... and the great dragon was thrown down" (Rev. 12:7-9).

He is venerated in Catholic, Orthodox, Anglican, Lutheran, Jewish, and Islamic traditions — one of the most universally honored heavenly figures in all of world religion. He is the protector of the Church, the escort of souls to heaven, and the warrior God sends when the battle is most fierce.

My grandmother Irene Forte Pollert taught me the Prayer to St. Michael when I was a little girl, pulling monkey grass in her yard for 25 cents a day. My son Cody chose St. Michael as his favorite saint. The warrior of heaven runs in our family. ⚔️
